Part 1
What is a modern day slave? Are we unaware that we are slaves? We all know that slavery is when one is forced do something against his or her own free will.
I am going to briefly describe an example of a person who is a victim of modern day slavery. A former friend of mine who resides in Harrison, New York is blessed with a lot of wealth and a good paying job. However, he believes that the ideas of society are correct, and any ideas that are different are inferior. For example, he would always stress to me the importance of money and how having lots of money and power. He believes that money and power would earn you respect from other people. I beg to differ, because respect is earned. That is, one earns respect by being true to himself or herself ; this gift is priceless and money can't buy respect, and uniqueness. But according to society and living in a rich area he believes that people who have the most money are respected. This demonstrates how society is his slave master. Additionally he finds my ideas funny and stupid, such a growing your own food, not going to the gym to get exercises (he believes the gym is the only way to get in shape), he believes supermarket food and body building supplements are safe.
This illustrates how he is forced into believing and setting himself by society standards instead of his setting his own standards of what is acceptable and comfortable to him.
I think we are all victims of slavery.
Part II
Another example of a modern day slave is when a person is being forced into believing that something true, based on false ideology. An example of this would be, the news, media, and supermarkets telling society that healthy eating is expensive. Truth be told good eating habits are not expensive. Think about it, if an individual grows his/her own food, he/she knows the food is organic, has a better a taste than the produce at the supermarket, and it is cheaper in the long run. However, if one lives urban he or she can look into community gardens or hydroponics. When a person produces majority of his/her own food, the supermarket is no longer his/her slave master. I am going to briefly state my opinion, but I feel supermarkets are evil because they want to over price the healthy foods; so people who don't have money are left with no choice but to buy foods that are processed. Last but not least, the more knowledge one gain he or she is freeing themselves from slavery. Peace Everyone
